Guelph Millenium 2010 Asparagus PlantsGuelph Millennium 2010

The Premium Green Variety for Later Production

The Plant

  • Male hybrid
  • Bred in Canada, the plant is “hardy” and tolerant to cold winters
  • It performs well during late seasons and hot weather
  • Very high vigour in spear and fern production
  • Performs on a range of soil types and potentially in replant situations

Seasonality and yield

  •  Planting density needs to suit each growers system but good results have been obtained with 33000 crowns/hectare and planting depths between 10cm-15cm
  • Guelph Millennium is a late variety to start production that produces heavy yields in a short period of time, reducing harvesting costs
  •  It out-yields all of the competing green types in its North American market as well as Backlim in the UK in terms of class 1 spears and marketable yield
  • Average marketable yield obtained in our UK trials is 20% greater than Backlim

Quality

Guelph Millennium has an average score for head tightness higher than the Dutch controls in our trials for each full season. It performed at its very best during hot harvesting seasons
